Performance
Our homes are unmatched when it comes to craftsmanship and design but what truly sets us apart are the products and materials we use behind the walls to make sure your home is operating at peak efficiency.
Every Homes By Dickerson home is Energy Star Certified, crafted to the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and voluntarily built to the NC HERO Code. These programs provide the framework for building better homes for our clients.
The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is a scoring system set by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to measure a home’s energy efficiency. The lower the HERS number, the more energy efficient the home. A typical existing home earns a rating of 130. A standard, code-built home has a rating of 100. Compared to a typical home, a Homes By Dickerson home has an average HERS rating of 56. Which means it is 44% more energy efficient than a standard code-built home.
Our tankless water heaters save energy by heating water on demand and giving our homeowners an unlimited supply of hot water.
We ensure your 6” fiberglass insulation will be installed correctly, not compressed, maximizing its potential benefits.
We use windows made of high-performance glass which reflects the radiant heat of the sun back outside, further insulating your home.
Our framing techniques, including 2x6 walls, use less wood and allow more insulation without compromising the structural integrity of the wall assembly.
ZIP System® reduces the risk of water vapor moving into the wall system. Air barrier also assists with maintaining conditioned air. Maintaining conditioned air means less energy is needed to recondition the air. Less energy means lower utility bills. And since all building systems must perform well together to optimize the energy efficiency of a home, the savings can add up.
TechShield®is a radiant energy barrier installed in the attic. It can block up to 97% of radiant heat transfer through roof sheathing, reducing attic temperature by up to 30° F.
Our subflooring enhances the structural integrity and helps reduce floor squeaks in the home.
These products allow us to use less wood resources while still getting the same structural integrity with I-Joists, floor trusses and roof trusses. They are also more stable than dimensional lumber.
We create conditioned crawl spaces which extend the thermal envelope creating a warmer first floor, a controlled space environment, and a protected area for the HVAC equipment. Increases HVAC efficiency and equipment lifespan.
Since 2009, Homes By Dickerson has embraced high-performance green building earning us multiple national accolades. In 2019, we were honored to have built the most single-family homes certified to the NGBS in the country.

Health
We know the health of your family is important to you which is why we have made thoughtful decisions when choosing products that help improve the air you breathe indoors.
Some paints may emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can serve as an irritant to people with certain allergies. Our homes feature low-VOC paints that help improve indoor air quality. Low-VOC carpets help reduce airborne irritants that can cause problems for allergy sufferers and help improve indoor air quality.
The MERV rating is a measurement scale designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters. MERV ratings go from 1 to 16, with higher ratings corresponding to a greater percentage of particles captured. MERV 11 filters capture more than 95% of airborne particles including pet dander, dust, and smoke. Every HBD home features a MERV 11 air filter for your HVAC System that is designed to help remove dust and allergens from your home.
Unveil a fresher living experience with Homes By Dickerson. Our whole-home ventilating dehumidifiers masterfully extract excess moisture, upgrading indoor air quality. Unlike stand-alone units, these devices integrate seamlessly into our HVAC systems, elevating your entire home. A dedicated external sensor guides the dehumidifier's prowess, drawing in and dehumidifying both fresh air and house return air.
Our trusted vendors select materials that prioritize both environmental sustainability and the health and comfort of your family.
