Life in Wendell Falls
Life in Wendell Falls. If you’re looking for more than just a home, you’ve found it. If you’re looking for a community in the truest sense of the word, look no further. If you’re looking for a place to call home that has everything you could possible wish for within an arm’s reach, welcome to Wendell Falls.
Now my perspective is unique. Yes, I am a new home consultant with Homes By Dickerson but I was a Wendell Falls resident first. Two years ago, my wife and I were looking for a new home community. We had a 2-year-old daughter, we were expecting our son any day and we had a really big dog. We were busting out of our townhome. Like busting. #NeedSpaceNow
Oh yeah, and there was some serious 9 months pregnancy nesting happening.
We did what I imagine many new home customers would do that consider themselves “city people”. We looked for a new home in our price range everywhere in Raleigh but found almost nothing that would work for us. Yet it was important that we stay close to downtown Raleigh. So, we started to look South. Nothing. And West. Nope. And North. Definitely nope. Zilch. And it wasn’t until a friend suggested we look East that we stumbled, almost literally, upon Wendell Falls.
I had really never been East of Raleigh but we were blown away to discover that it had almost everything we were looking for in a new home community and what it lacked is now under development and on the way. Even though it had all of the things that were important to us (close distance to downtown Raleigh but with a quaint small town feel; outdoor amenities like hiking/biking trails, a pool, amphitheater for outdoor music, etc.; a brand new home that we could afford), it wasn’t until we actually spent some time in Wendell Falls that we decided to call it home. #LifeinWendellFalls
Here is what we did. Every Sunday we would hang out at The Farmhouse, more specifically Grounds Café, like we lived here. We would come out, let our daughter play on the playground while we sipped on some of the best coffee we’ve ever tasted. We did the “Resident for a Day” program, swam in the pool and enjoyed a delicious lunch. We would get to know the people that already lived in the neighborhood and tell them we were thinking of moving here. Funny thing, we met SO MANY people that were doing just what we were doing. Some of our closest friends in the neighborhood came from those initial visits. We drove and timed the drive to downtown Raleigh. 18 minutes BTW if you drive like me. And what was probably most fun was coming out to enjoy ourselves at the Farmhouse Jams Summer Concert Series. They say “The music is free but it’s B.Y.O.C (bring your own chair).” So that’s what we did. And. It. Was. Awesome. Food, fun, music, beverages, kids’ games, adult games, sunshine. It is what sealed the deal for us.
As a side note, the next Farmhouse Jams is coming up at 5:30 pm on September 8th, (which happens to be my birthday FYI) and features JOHNNY FOLSOM 4, a Johnny Cash cover band. You’re welcome.
